Course DescriptionThis course examines the architectural, cultural, and social transformation of housing in the modern era through a historical and interdisciplinary lens. It analyzes the multilayered structure of domestic space around themes such as housing typologies, interior spatial organizations, gender roles, technological developments, class practices, and memory. Spatial reconfigurations of everyday life in modernization processes -along with planning policies, informal housing production, and the ideological dimensions of the home- are discussed through historical documents, theoretical texts, and spatial case studies. Students develop research-based and analytical thinking skills by exploring the intersections between architectural history and cultural studies.
