Course DescriptionThis course is carried out with the co-operation of Anatomy, Physiology, Histology & Embryology, Immunology, Medical Biochemistry and Medical Genetics Departments. The name, structure and function of each formed element in blood are described. Hematopoietic stem cells and formation of blood cells in the bone marrow is described. The sequence of events of clot formation, including the roles of the platelets and various plasma proteins are explained. Blood groups, blood transfusion, and related concepts are described. The names, locations and functions of the lymphoid cells, tissues and organs composing lymphoid system are explained. Antigen, antibody, complement, MHC molecules, cytokines, lymphocyte differentiation, cellular/humoral immunity and hypersensitivity reactions are described. The information about vaccines and serological tests is given. In accordance with lectures, practical work in the laboratory environment were applied to reinforce theoretical knowledge.
Course Contents Anatomy, Physiology, Histology & Embryology, Immunology, Medical Biochemistry and Medical Genetics Departments contributes to this course. It covers basic concepts, cells/structures and mechanisms related to lymphatic system and blood.
