Course Description
This course is the second part of the Microeconomic Analysis sequence and builds on the theoretical foundations developed in Microeconomic Analysis I. It provides a more advanced and rigorous treatment of firm behavior and market structure. The course begins with a detailed analysis of production theory and cost minimization, followed by short-run and long-run cost structures. It then examines competitive firms and market equilibrium under perfect competition, before turning to models of monopoly and monopsony to analyze market power and welfare effects. The course continues with oligopoly and monopolistic competition, emphasizing strategic interaction among firms, and concludes with an introduction to game theory as a formal framework for analyzing strategic decision-making. Throughout the semester, students engage with mathematical and graphical tools to develop a deeper understanding of pricing, output determination, efficiency, and welfare across different market environments.
