| Course Description | The aim of the course is to provide some basic understanding about sonar systems, from wet-end transducer subsystems to dry-end components (digitization, signal processing etc.). A general view of different sonar types and processing architectures will be given. Theoretical background of conventional passive and active sonar systems will be studied and some acoustic demonstrations (using standard microphones and speakers) will be made following the theoretical discussions. A general understanding and methods of prediction for certain performance metrics for each subsystem (tranducers, amplifiers, array processing, detector and tracker) will also be provided. Consequently a system design approach for both hardware and software components of a sonar system will be followed throughout the course. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
