At the end of this course, the students;
- Select a research topic per the qualitative research approach and identify a research problem.
- Distinguish the characteristics of the research designs within the scope of the qualitative research approach and compares the designs according to their characteristics.
- Define data collection methods and techniques appropriate to the research design chosen.
- Dominate the sampling techniques in qualitative research and select and use the sampling technique appropriate to the purpose of the research.

| Course Description | This course covers a range of qualitative research methods that are widely used in social sciences. The curriculum begins by providing an overview of the historical, epistemological, and ontological foundations of these methods. Students will then explore common approaches to collecting qualitative data, research design, and ethical planning. Through this course, students will develop a solid understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts of qualitative research in social sciences. They will be introduced to various data collection methods, from in-depth interviewing and focus groups to participant observation/ethnography, virtual/visual analysis, and comparison/case studies. In addition, they will learn about different methods of data analysis, such as qualitative content analysis, narrative analysis, and discourse analysis. Practical experience is also provided through a self-developed research project, which will demonstrate the diversity of methodological approaches and their application to specific research questions and designs in the social sciences. |
