Course DescriptionThe architectural culture of the Turkish period in Anatolia is examined within the scope of this course. The course aims to introduce the shaping of the built environment that developed, transformed and changed in the time period starting with the settlement of Turks in Anatolia in the 11th century and extending to the late Ottoman period in the 19th century. In this context, Anatolian Turkish cities are studied including their urban architecture. Anatolian Turkish-Islamic building types and their design principles are explored with respect to their architectural features such as spatial organizations, plan schemes, mass formations, facade compositions, structural systems and material usage, as well as their development and changes over time. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to evaluate, distinguish and compare the architectural history of Anatolia in the Turkish period, in other words, the development and transformation process of Turkish-Islamic architecture in this particular geographical region.
