| Course Description | Departing from the assumptions of perfect competition, this
course provides a rigorous microeconomic analysis of
imperfectly competitive markets, the dynamics of market
power concentration, and strategic firm conduct that define
contemporary industries. It explores in analytical depth how
market power is established, entry barriers generated by
economies of scale and sunk costs, oligopolistic pricing
mechanisms, vertical restraints, and tacit collusion models.
Concurrently, antitrust policies, the regulation of natural
monopolies, and strategic industrial policies are examined
not merely as bureaucratic compliance tools, but as
economic design instruments that reshape market structures
and aggregate welfare distribution. Bridging theoretical
frameworks and real-world market dynamics, the primary
objective of this course is to equip students with the
analytical competence to empirically evaluate structural
market failures, sectoral concentration, and the boundaries
of public interventions across both Turkish and global
markets. |
