At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Interpret the poems and prose texts they read about the 16th century within the framework of classical Turkish poetry tradition.
  2. Distinguish the similarities and divergences of 16th century classical Turkish literature style with previous periods.
  3. List the characteristics of the classical style.
  4. Recognize the literary personalities of the prominent poets of the period.

Course DescriptionThis course introduces the literary history of the 16th century and examines the major poetic figures as well as the representative texts from this period.
Course Contents
WEEK TOPICS
1st Week Introduction. The general situation of the 16th century Ottoman Empire and the characteristics of classical literature.
2nd Week Hayali Bey: "Cihan-ara cihan içindedür arayı bilmezler/ Ol mahiler ki derya içredür deryayı bilmezler"
